April 16-20, 2012 is Manufacturing Appreciation Week in Georgia.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) announces a new program to expand exports and grow jobs for businesses throughout Georgia. The G.R.O.W. (Georgia Reaching Out Worldwide) Regional Initiative (G.R.O.W.) provides small and medium sized companies with country-specific global insight about export opportunities as well as appointments with international buyers/representatives and country experts.

This is a new program and is funded through a grant from the Small Business Administration. Meet with three buyers and manufacturers’ representatives from Germany, the United Kingdom and Mexico. Read more…

In promoting awareness of manufacturing and its importance to our state, the Technical College System of Georgia and the Georgia Department Economic Development emphasize these facts:

  • Manufacturing is vital to Georgia’s economy.
  • Nearly 10,000 manufacturing facilities are located in Georgia, providing jobs for approximately 400,000 Georgians.
  • Manufacturing accounts for almost 10 percent of the employment in our state.
  • Georgia’s manufacturing operations include a variety of industries, such as transportation equipment, aerospace, computers and electronics, food, paper, metal fabrication, textiles, and plastics.
